Four Seasons

Visitors to the Whangarei Art Museum can explore the stunning works of the late Northland artist John Foster (1942 to 2003) together with selected prints from The Te Kowhai Print Trust.

This unique exhibition recreates Fosters work in Four Seasons; a 30 year old school journal published by the Department of Education. Showcasing all of the original illustrations- 32 striking woodcut prints, and an intricate large-scale 14.4 metre mural Country Calendar- featured on the front cover of the journal.

Also featured in this exhibition are a variety of outstanding prints by local print makers selected from the impressive Te Kowhai Print Trust archives.

The Trust has built a collection of prints of historical importance to both Northland and New Zealand. Selected works explore the coastline and ocean, complimenting Foster’s land and country, grounding the exhibition in Northland.

Four Seasons showcases the work of some of Northlands most prolific painters and printmakers, not to be missed.
