Casual Gallery Technician (12-month fixed-term position)

Whangārei Art Museum is the home of visual arts in Northland. The logistics of displaying, moving and storing valuable artworks is a specialised one, and we’re looking for people with the hands-on skills and experience to help us.

The key functions of this role will include:

  • exhibition display and installation
  • movement/transportation of artworks
  • storage of artworks.

As a Casual Gallery Technician, you will be involved with all aspects of exhibition installation, including painting walls and hanging artworks. The job will also involve assisting with the packing, transport and storage of loaned and collection-based works of art. Building experience and/or an understanding of audio/visual technologies would be an added advantage.

All tasks are undertaken in line with preventative conservation procedures, insurance requirements, international museum standards, and health and safety practices. Training will be given to the right applicant.

Good visual judgement and practical experience regarding the placement of artworks will put you on the path to success in this role. To fit in with our team, you’ll take pride in your work, be flexible, and enjoy working with a committed group of people.

This is a 12-month fixed-term casual position (approximately 12 x 40-hour weeks), required when we change over exhibitions. The position could potentially be split into two positions. The exhibition schedule is planned over a year in advance.

Send your CV and cover letter to the Curator at wamcomms@wdc.govt.nz.

Applications close 8am Tuesday 30 June.
