In this online artist talk, AwhiWorld’s Kim Newall and Dr Maggie Buxton take us behind the scenes of The Plant Room, their digital work currently showing at Whangārei Art Museum.

In their interactive digital work, images of nature are transformed by algorithms into new hybrid forms, experienced as sound and image. Existing only for a few minutes, these entities then disappear forever. Sensors trigger the transformation, just as humans inadvertently trigger unintended change in ecological systems simply by turning up.

Kim and Maggie will talk about the ideas and technology behind The Plant Room, the challenges of interactive installations, and explain how they use new media to support the spirit of people and their places. They’ll also show a few of the gorgeous projections.

Join us on Thursday 9 April at 8pm on our Facebook page.
